As previously mentioned, but for the Stone Roses concert on Monday, D and I would probably not have visited Lyon. However, we had such a marvelous time in that city, learned so much, ate so well, and found people to be so friendly and welcoming to visitors, that we found ourselves thoroughly charmed and eager to return.
Lyon’s tourism industry is outstanding, in terms of not only offering numerous activities, but also in its level of accessibility. There were tourist offices in most main squares, staffed with very helpful Lyonnais who seemed to want tourists to love their city as much as they did! The public transportation system, comprised of a subway, trams, buses, and bike rentals, was very user-friendly and straight-forward.
And of course, Lyon is, simply put, a beautiful city. Merci de tout coeur, Lyon. À la prochaine!
We checked out of our Lyon hotel this morning, and took the TGV (high-speed train)to Avignon, where we picked up a rental car and headed for Arles. We will be driving around Provence and the Languedoc over the next couple of days!
