Chocolate Cake, Nimes-styles

Thunderstorms, the last bit of jet lag, and our poor planning combined today to ruin any hope of productivity. As a mild “Type A”, and someone who believes that the saying “just go with it” must die a quick death, this all set me on edge and tested what little patience I possess.

But before I completely lost my grip, we went out for lunch, conveniently at a small bistro about 3 minutes walk from our place, where we enjoyed the fish of the day.

My dessert was listed on the menu as, simply, “gâteau au chocolate, glacée vanillée”. Chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream. What came out instead was the picture above, not so much “chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream”, as rich chocolate mousse on a thin wafer crust, dusted with fine cocoa powder, decorated with a GILDED piece of pumpkin seed, served with rich house-made vanilla ice cream filled with vanilla seeds.

What??!!
