Momofuku Toronto, and Blue Rodeo at Massey Hall

Blue Rodeo at Massey Hall, Toronto. February 2, 2013.

We spent a day in Toronto the weekend of the 2nd to see Blue Rodeo in concert, and also to eat at Momofuku’s Canadian outpost!

By the time we arrived at Noodle Bar TO, I was so hungry that I completely forgot to take pictures of what we ordered. I just shamelessly hoovered everything, remembering the camera just as I was slurping up the last noodle in my bowl. Too bad, because in addition to being delicious, the food was also very photogenic, but you’ll have to take my word on that. We enjoyed house-made kimchi, shiitake buns (how can mushrooms and cucumber taste so good?), Momofuku Ramen (with slices of pork belly and shredded pork shoulder), and Smoked Chicken Ramen.

The Blue Rodeo concert at Massey Hall was very entertaining, even if we were all seated as though we were politely watching the National Ballet’s performance of “Swan Lake”. Mercifully, Greg Keelor asked, for the final song before the encore, that security allow people to go up to the front of the stage, and so we were all able to stand up out of our seats.

They played an energetic 2 hours and 40 minutes, with a single 20 minute break, covering many of their most popular songs as well as a few new ones from an album to be released in the fall. It was a great show, well worth the travel from Ottawa.

They just opened in the fall, from what I understand. They have 3 restaurants, all in one giant, beautiful complex right next to the Shangri-La hotel. Momofuku Noodle Bar is on the main floor, Nikai (a bar) is on the second, Daisho the restaurant is the next floor, and Shoto the super-duper chef-oriented restaurant is the last one. Sadly, we only had time to try Noodle Bar, but it was outstanding! I hope you enjoy your visit in June. The Momofuku cookbook is an excellent read, by the way…full of great recipes as well as the Momofuku story as told by David Chang himself 🙂
