About

I think that memory is affected by a person’s emotions, life experiences, and general state of mind. Why is it that when two people share the same experience (travelling, for example), they have different recollections of the same event? My husband might remember the tasty ham and cheese baguettes that we ate in some park on vacation, but I might only remember that there were dozens of small children chasing fat pigeons all over that same park. So, memory is subjective. Perhaps photos tell a story more accurately than do our recollections. Perhaps they do not. I’ll keep taking pictures while I make up my mind about it.

UPDATE JANUARY 2020:

I started this blog in 2012 as a way to keep friends and family posted while D and I were travelling, instead of writing emails. This way, they could either choose to check in on the blog or not, instead of receiving emails that they might then have felt obligated to read. When I was not travelling, I ignored this blog.

Fast forward to 2020: I am officially middle-aged, have lived some life, had some terrifying health scares, have travelled as much as money and time allowed, have had some wins, and suffered some losses.

I’ve decided to turn this blog into a catch-all of what I want to say, instead of just writing about travel adventures. I really have nothing profound or wise to say, but I do enjoy writing, and I do feel that women over 40 are a little under-represented in the blog world; I could be wrong (I frequently am).

So, hopefully I will have enough things to write about to keep this blog going past this month of January when anything seems possible and no goal seems too difficult to achieve.

Thanks so much for reading.

Amazing encounters. Travelling is such a wonderful experience and life lesson. Really enjoy your blog. I wish I had had as inspirational a French teacher as you but I do love the language and the culture. I’ll keep reading.

Hi Louise! Thank you for reading. I do enjoy writing this blog, and having people read any of it is a bonus 😄
I think for me the best part about travelling is that it helps me appreciate my life more.
All of my interest in France came from Mme. Hea. I wish I had a way to tell her now what she has meant to me. I like to think that the fact I still speak French (badly, lol), and that Dave and I visit France as often as possible are good ways to thank and honour her.

Brook!!! I’m so happy to see you here 😀. Thanks for reading; I’m always drafting new posts in my head, but then I think no one wants to read my jibberish 😂. Maybe I’ll post again soon…quarantine’s given me lots to write about!
